The Sunshine Coast is Australia's Craft Beer Capital. Yes, it's official: the Sunny Coast now has more craft breweries per capita than any other state or territory.

Now joining the growing brew trail is Matso's - that famous drop from Broome. It's a right of passage for any self-respecting traveller to the Kimberley to make sure they wet their lips on a Matso's mango beer while the mangoes fall ripe to the ground nearby.

Matso's also created Australia's first alcoholic ginger beer. Now Matso's has opened its second home in Eumundi, a vibrant rural community 15 km inland from Noosa.

Matso's Sunshine Coast opened on 22nd December 2023, breathing new life into "Joe's Waterhole", a classic Queensland pub. The renovation retains the heritage Queenslander feel at the front while the back showcases Matso's sprawling, laid-back feel. There is a front bar, main bar, restaurant, beer garden and pool room and everyone and their dog is invited.

The venue is home to a new brew kit. The entire range of Matso's beers is brewed fresh onsite, including originals such as Matso's Ginger Beer and Matso's Mango Beer, but also tropical fruit-driven beers and classic thirst-quenching lagers and pales. And they are on tap when you have a Queensland-sized thirst.

And while they are brewing their ginger and mango beers onsite, they are supplying not only locals but the whole of Queensland. Ginger beer is projected to become the most significant segment of craft beer in Australia. It has grown in popularity, particularly in Queensland, which is the nation's biggest alcoholic ginger beer market.

I love it on ice with a big wedge of fresh lime.

But Matso's is for more than just beer lovers, although who doesn't love a cold one in the heat? Their brews also make their way into stunning thirst-quenching cocktails. Try a El Mejicana Mulas, Matso’s Gin Mule or a Dark & Stormy.

The Sunshine Coast is a proud ginger-growing region, and the kitchen incorporates ginger and other local ingredients into the menu. Expect items like ginger beer BBQ pork ribs, spiced cauliflower, spicy peanut butter, ginger and sesame cream with a mixed herb salad alongside Pacific oysters, mango, yuzu mignonette, lemon or how about yuzu cheesecake?

Open seven days a week from 10 am to late. (Kitchen from 11 am)
