A colourful dining experience
I was looking for a venue for my next girl's night out when Matisse Beach Club jumped out at me from my daily Groupon email. It looked pretty funky on my initial inspection of the pictures and I thought for the price it was worth checking out. The actual Groupon deal was $59 for 2 people for a two course meal (dinner and dessert) plus a house wine or beer. I figured at just under $30 a person for meal and a drink I couldn't really go wrong.
As I said previously, it was the pictures that drew me. Brightly coloured, funky, different from your standard venue for dinner. I didn't bother to read reviews or look into it much more at this stage. Upon arrival, we had to present ID and get our photo taken. Bit strange for dinner but it didn't bother me that much. I know some others think this is over the top so I thought it was worth mentioning.
Once inside the venue was as novel as it appeared in the pictures. We were seated in the inside dining area but there are also outdoor poolside cabanas which would be great place in summer to sit back and chill with friends.
Since we were there on a Groupon our selection of what we could order was limited to the "Eat" section of the menu. I ordered the Coconut Poached Chicken Breast and my friend ordered the Angus Beef Fillet. The wait staff were quick to take our order and the food arrived quickly .
The meals were actually really good. I wasn't expecting much because the venue seemed more like a bar and a couple of the reviews that I did read said it was nothing more than glorified pub food. I can't speak for the casual dining aspect of the venue but both the meals we ordered were delicious. We ordered a side to share and I would recommend this as the meals weren't huge but personally I'd rather have a smaller tasty dish than a mountain of average food.

Having said that, once you order your meal and a side it is somewhat pricey ($38 for the beef fillet and sides were $8) but hey we were there on a Groupon so we thought it was good value. The house wine and beers were $9 each, so again they were on the pricey side.
Matisse Beach Club Dessert Menu
For dessert we had the macadamia and pecan tart and the mojito cheesecake. The tart was yum - a mixture of salty caramel goodness. It was much more flavoursome than I expected. The mojito cheesecake was enjoyable. With the mint sorbet it had a nice mix of flavours.
Whilst I rated the food, I wouldn't recommend this venue for dinner if you don't like a lot of noise. The venue has several bars and as the night went on it got very noisy. There was a DJ and the music was really loud to the point you couldn't chat without almost shouting. I would recommend it for a night with your girls or your mates, especially if you want to have a drink or a dance afterwards. I wouldn't recommend it for a romantic dinner or if you're looking to have some deep and meaningful conversation over dinner.
Overall, I was impressed with the food and because I was there on a Groupon I left feeling like I got a good deal, however if I'd been paying full price I might have been more critical of the dining experience.
