Matir Agunot (Unchained) - TV Series Review

Matir Agunot is a 2019 Israeli television drama produced by United Studios of Israel and premiered on public broadcaster Kan. Matir Agunot it means Unchained in Hebrew and it is written & #1502 ;& #1514 ;& #1497 ;& #1512 ; & #1506 ;& #1490 ;& #1493 ;& #1504 ;& #1493 ;& #1514 ;.

Matir Agunot was created by Joseph Madmony, Tamar Kay and David Ofek. The show ran for one season and includes twelve episodes. The original language is Hebrew, with English subtitles.

Matir Agunot delves into many pressing current themes, including the difficulties to reconcile the Ultra Orthodox religious beliefs and the modern world, especially in the area of divorce.
Jewish law allows a woman to divorce only if her husband grants her a Gett – a Jewish divorce.

Man can abuse his wife, commit adultery or just disappear, but still, the wife needs his permission to divorce and start a new life. Agunot are the women whose husbands denied them a Gett. Agunot means chained woman.

The protagonist is Aviv Alush as Rabbi Yosef Morad. He works for the Rabbinate as a detective who investigates the Agunot cases in order to find a way to unchain the wives. Avigail Kovari is Hannah Morad, the wife of Yosef Morad. Hannah is a complex figure and the mysteries connected to her grow in each episode and get slowly revealed to the audience.

Head writer and co-creator Madmony has been inspired by his personal background being born in the Jewish Orthodox world.
The writer explores the unresolved conflict between religion and women's rights in modern society. Also, Madmony analyses the life of a Jewish Orthodox husband and wife, Yosef and Hannah, and how conservative ideologies can impact the life of a woman in the modern world.

For Hannah, the Jewish Orthodox rules are too strict, suffocating and too adverse for the nature of woman. Yosef instead has constructed his life on the principles of the Judaic religion.

Elush's character is based on the real-life story of Rabbi Eliyahu Maimon.

Israeli actor, musician, model, and television host Avraham Aviv Alush, best known as Amos Dahari "The Baker" in the Israeli series Beauty and the Baker, and as Jesus in the American film The Shack (2017). He was born in Israel in 1982, today he is married with three children and lives in Tel Aviv.

Israeli singer, musician, and television and film actress Vigail Atara Kovari won the Best Actress award at the Jerusalem Film Festival in 2018 for her role in the film Red Cow. Kovari was born in Jerusalem in 1987 to a religious family. Her parents were born in the United States, and are second generation to Holocaust survivors
