Bitter Springs, Mataranka, Northern Territory.

Mataranka Bitter Springs Thermal Pools are a part of the Roper River system. The Roper River, usually supplied by the wet season up north, is also fed by numerous subterranean springs around the Mataranka area.

Mataranka is a town located along the Stuart Highway about an hour south of Katherine in the Northern Territory. Bitter Springs are located at the end of Martin Road, Mataranka.

Bitter Springs has glistening green water for you to soak in.

The photos speak for themselves; the water is crystal clear and warm. You can even float down stream on a pool noodle. You can also snorkel or just soak. The Bitter Springs are lesser known than the Mataranka Springs, so are often less crowded.

Like a tropical oasis in the midst of the semi arid desert of the Northern Territory.

Located within the Elsie National Park Mataranka Bitter Springs can prove to be an indulgence amidst the searing heat of the Northern Territory.

What a delightful way to break up your journey.
