Matador is a live stage show featuring a combination of burlesque, dance and circus performances. I managed to catch the show at the Melba Spiegeltent in Collingwood last Friday night and I'm glad I did.
Straight up, I could see that each of the performers were skilled in their craft with the show delving into multiple forms of dance including contemporary, Latin, ballet as well as aerial, pole and circus acts. Each performer held an immense amount of intensity and feeling in what they did and this in combination with their skill really held the audience for the entire performance. Another interesting feature was the story that intertwined with the dancing. In a nutshell and without spoiling it too much, is a story of love, lust (quite a bit) and sometimes, doubt all told without a single word being spoken! Be prepared this is not a show for kids as some of the dances are quite sexual but it does make for a good date night or with your adult friends.
While the show is running you can grab a drink from the bar and if with a group watch the show from one of the booths that run along the back of the room/tent or you can get up close in the chairs provided near the stage. Just outside the tent, there is a food truck which sells tapas and savoury treats. I had the calamari for $10 and it was quite nice.
