is a unique live music and poetry experience featuring concert pianist Julian Bailey and readings of selected poetry by writer Anne M Carson, read by artist Jerzy Kozlowski. This event is inspired by 'Massaging Himmler: A Poetic Biography of Dr Felix Kersten' which Carson wrote after coming upon the story in a book in an op shop over two decades ago. It tells the little-known but true story of Dr Felix Kersten, the personal masseur of the head of the feared SS and Gestapo, Reichsführer Heinrich Himmler. Kersten's therapeutic expertise gave him influence over Himmler, which he used to secure the release of tens, possibly hundreds, of thousands of people from Nazi imprisonment. He was accused of collaboration at the end of the war due to his close association with Himmler but his name was cleared. He received honours from France, Finland, Switzerland, Sweden, the Netherlands and Italy. This special concert will pay tribute to Kersten through the whole set of 10 Rachmaninov Preludes which will be interspersed with poetry readings. The music mirrors the mythic quality of the Dr Kersten/Himmler story, both evoking struggle and conflict into light. Performed by concert pianist Bailey, the Preludes are darkly passionate, threaded through with passages of sublime transcendence. Bailey has been playing some of the Preludes for over forty years, while Carson has been working on her manuscript for over 20 years. The result is an enlightening experience, that will appeal to an audience of all ages. Come hear the whole set of the Preludes and the remarkable story of Kersten through engaging and insightful poetry.'In crystal clear poems, Anne M Carson gives the reader an intimate view of one of the Holocaust's greatest murderers, Heinrich Himmler, who suffered an agonising stomach condition that only his personal physician, Dr Felix Kersten, was able to relieve. In the process he was able to save the lives of many Jews.' - Adele Hulse, Lamm Jewish Library of Australia will held at the Junior Common Room at Queen's College on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th July 2016, at 5pm. Tickets are now on sale through Trybooking and are priced from $20 per person. For more information on , please visit the official website .
