Beaufort Street in Mt Lawley is always a fun place to visit. It is home to some of the best cafes, restaurants, bookstores, bars, pubs, fashion boutiques, music shops and heritage listed buildings in Perth. There's always something to see and to do on Beaufort Street. Planet Books is one of the best bookstores in Perth. Lawley's Bakery and Café makes some of the best cakes I've ever tasted. Monggo's Restaurant is a favourite haunt of ours and I always get a chuckle every time I pass the cheeky Meatball Bar. opened in August 2016. It made a colourful and vibrant addition to Mt Lawley and added something that was just a little bit different to the diverse and bustling Beaufort Street.

is located at 644 Beaufort Street. It is sandwiched between some great restaurants and located just a few doors down from Planet Books. It is open for dinner seven days a week from 6pm and serves lunch on Saturdays from 12pm. It closes at 11.45pm on Saturday and at 9.30pm every other night of the week. The restaurant is kid-friendly, does takeaway, has a wide selection of desserts and sweets, does shared plates, is BYO alcohol and has Wi-Fi available. They take reservations but also welcome walk ins.

Mashawi really stands out on Beaufort Street. It has a decorative store front and is always playing pleasant sounding music from the Middle East. The interior of the restaurant has been lovingly decorated with large vases, lamps, gold plates and pot plants. The staff are always lovely and eager to see you to see your seat. After you've been shown to your table the first thing you will get is a basket of free bread and a bowl of some pickled vegetables. Don't eat these too quickly! Order a bowl of hummus for $11 so you can dip your bread into them. It makes for a great entrée.

For my main I got the Mixed Seafood Tagine for $22.90. Tagine is a traditional Middle Eastern dish that is cooked in earthenware pot. The Mixed Seafood Tagine that I got was delicious. It came on a bed of couscous with a combination of fish, prawns and squid and sauce on top. The fish was boneless and very soft. It was a little bit on the spicy side but thankfully every time I downed another glass of water a waitress would appear out of nowhere to give me a re-fill.

If you've never tried Middle Eastern or Moroccan cuisine I definitely recommend that you give a try.
