I first visited Masala Craft on a cold, wet and wintry night about a year ago. It was the perfect place to escape from the cold weather, and I've been back several times since.
Situated low on High street, somewhere between Northcote and Bundoora, it is the perfect place to visit for great Indian food in the northern suburbs.
I usually go with Vegetarian dishes when visiting Indian restaurants, it's much safer as I am allergic to cow's milk. While I was disappointed to discover they do not serve my favourite, Chickpea Masala, I thoroughly enjoy their Gobi Mircha Aloo Masala (cauliflower, potato and green pepper curry).
The meat dishes also look amazing. My boyfriend highly recommends the Chicken Tikka Masala, which he orders almost every time we go.
No Indian feast would be complete without Naan or some delicious Biryani Rice. The garlic naan at Masala Craft is to die for and their Biryani rice converted me from my previous view that Indian food is best served with plain Jasmine rice.
They also offer a great range of beverages, both alcoholic and non. I usually choose to BYO alcohol where possible, but even their house red is acceptable tasting and reasonably priced.
The service is good. While it can be little slow, probably due to the huge number of takeaway orders they put out, the atmosphere is good, so waiting doesn't seem like a hassle. The staff are friendly and they know the menu well.
I would definitely recommend it to help you curb those winter blues.
