A short car journey of about two hours (100km) will take you from the bustling Melbourne CBD to the tranquil surroundings of Marysville in the Yarra Valley. It's a great little town if you're looking to spend a weekend away somewhere and has an abundance of outdoor activities plus dining options as well as local markets to explore.

Marysville has recently gone through some hard times when the "Black Saturday" bushfires of 2009 destroyed most of the small town. However, since then, the place has fought back and is now a gem of a place to visit where the locals are still working hard to rebuild and tourists can either spend time in the local township or explore the surrounding walking/bike tracks. To help decide where to start when visiting Marysville the tourist information centre will provide most of what you need to know. Plus, if you're walking on your own, you can leave your personal details with the visitor centre staff in case there's a bushfire warning so that they can contact you and give advice.

If you're not feeling the urge to walk around the numerous trails, then driving is also just as much fun, with beautiful forest drives being easy to navigate.

After a weekend of exploring the natural beauty of Marysville, during the drive back to Melbourne, why not put some time aside and stop off in Healsville, or even call into a few wineries that are dotted along the main road which lead you back to Mebourne.
