If a business has been around for twenty-odd years, you can be certain it is securely cemented into the culture of a town and the community. The French Bread Shop in Adelaide Street, Maryborough is a family owned business, which was originally run by the parents of the current proprietors, Tommy and Teresa.



What I find so homely is when the owners know the customers by name and this is exactly the case at The French Bread Shop. I observed first-hand the customers and owners greeting each other with smiles and a chat. The staff also remembered the selection of beverage their regulars were about to request. That is certainly good service in my book.



The French Bread Shop were Queensland winners in 2010 and 2011 in the Australia Best Bakery Awards. They are open seven-days a week from 6.00am for breakfast and lunch, however, the Asian Takeaway meals are only available daily from 4.00pm to 8.30pm daily. The Asian meals include entrée, soups, omelettes, seafood, squid, fish, chicken, beef, fillet steak, pork, lamb, sweet and sour, duck and combination dishes. Starting at $5.00 for soup to seafood dishes at $18.50, the menu is very comprehensive and something for everyone's taste buds.



For your morning tea coffee and tea can be chosen from the large blackboard behind the counter. My pot of Chamomile Tea cost $3.00. Coffee starts $3.70 for most regular options. Flavours and soy are also available for 0.50c extra. Three massive refrigerators contain a vast range of soft drink, juice, water and milk if you prefer a cold beverage. Milkshakes and smoothies are also available.



The cakes are to die for, so making a choice is a little harder than expected. I was told the "Grannies Cake" was delicious. The French Bread Shop's own recipe, the Grannies Cake is similar to a custard tart, only their own special recipe made into a delicious pastry and custard tart of either vanilla or coffee. I have been told it is hard to make a choice between the two.



Apart from the award winning pies and sausages rolls, The French Bread Shop prepares fresh sandwiches and salads for lunch. Based in the middle of town in Adelaide Street, make your next morning tea, lunch or dinner a stop at The French Bakery.
