Relive the magic of Mary Poppins this August with a whimsical al fresco cinema experience.
On the first Saturday of every month, Little Bayside Park on Manly's foreshore becomes an outdoor cinema, providing a free family friendly night out. Market stalls, pop up food tents and entertainment are usually on offer during the afternoon, while a child appropriate movie begins at 6pm and usually runs around two hours.
This August, the movie will be Mary Poppins Returns. 25 years after their first encounter with Mary Poppins, the Banks children are all grown up. Michael, a widower with three children, and his sister Jane still live in their childhood home, which is at risk of being repossessed by a corrupt banking chairman. Their plan to save the house leads to a visit from an old friend, and a magical new nanny for Annabel, John and Georgie. The 2018 sequel starts Emily Blunt as the eponymous Mary Poppins and Lin-Manuel Miguel as Jack the chimney sweep, and features guest appearances from Dick Van Dyke, Angela Lansbury, Meryl Streep and Colin Firth.
Little Bayside Park is situated near Manly Harbour Village, with lots of options for anyone looking to make a night of it. Catch the train to Manly Station and walk the length of Cambridge Parade, enjoying the fairy lights on your way to the park. Afterwards, head back the way you came to find a restaurant, bars, ice cream, and more.
