Old fashioned country charm
Ideally situated on the main street of Blackwood is Martin on Main, a cute and cosy retro cottage.

The cottage has a main bedroom and a second bedroom with two sets of bunk beds. There is also a sofa bed in the lounge room, however utilising all the beds would make the cottage very cramped. It is ideally suited for a family or couple to stay in.

The romantic master bedroom.

Very well fitted out with all the essential requirements for a great weekend away, the cottage allows guests to simply relax and enjoy the surrounds. The kitchen has all the crockery you'd require and basic provisions including tea and coffee. All linen and towels are provided, which makes life a lot easier and there are board games, firewood for the Coonara and a great selection of magazines.

The cottage is styled in a retro way with a gorgeous iron double bed in the main bedroom and a mid century modern style lounge suite in the lounge. Mobile reception and is very patchy in Blackwood generally. I had no reception at all whilst at the cottage so make sure you've prepared for that.

There is a CD player and a Bluetooth speaker but no television. This means you actually have to talk to your partner and family. Personally I love this, as after all, isn't getting away from it all meant to reconnect us?

Perhaps part of the attraction of Martin on Main is its great location. The cottage is just metres from the Blackwood Hotel a good old fashioned country pub where meals are available and the Blackwood Merchant a wonderful cafe which provides fantastic views of the surrounds whilst you sip on your coffee or enjoy your breakfast.

You can also walk to the mineral springs and access the Great Dividing Trail a short walk from the property. This would be an ideal base for keen walkers as the area abounds with walking tracks. The Wombat State Forest is also nearby which is a haven for mountain biking enthusiasts.

The area is beautiful to explore.

Gardeners will not want to miss a visit to the beautiful Garden of St Erth. Part of the Diggers Club, there are plants, seeds and gardening equipment available for sale and a cafe which serves lunch.

If you are considering a weekend away in Blackwood, and you really should, cross your fingers and hope there is a vacancy at Martin on Main.
