Not many tourist accomodation can claim to have its own micro island for their guests to relax on. Just 15 kilometres from Busselton is overlooking the Wonnerup inlet.
This eight room guest house is owned by Patricia who purchased the property several years ago. Patricia is a friendly lady who will go out of her way to help you if you have any special requests.
Your choice of rooms range from garden view suites to standard double room or standard twin room on the ground floor. On the first floor is one deluxe room with ocean views and its own balcony. Each room has an ensuite bathroom with a TV and tea/ coffee making facilities. Unfortunately no children under 12 years of age are allowed and no pets either. There is plenty of free parking if you bring your boat and trailer with you or even your caravan.
The rate includes a delicious cooked breakfast served in the guest dining room. You nominate the time you would like your breakfast served to you. I know the eggs are very fresh as there are several hens onsite just at the side of the main building. She has also started a small vegetable garden as well.
This large 4 hectare (10 acre ) property allows you plenty of room to wander around the landscaped gardens or onto the micro island with a gazebo for you to sit under to relax and watch the birdlife in the surrounding inlet. Have a drink and watch the sun go down from here. There are also three white ducks who appear to like this little island as well and will gladly sit under the shaded tree with you. There is a BBQ you may use or just sit on the outdoor seating.
There is a pedestrian bridge over the inlet if you wish to walk across to Wonnerup Beach. You can swim at this beach or walk along the sand to the mouth of the Vasse river. If you have a 4 wheel drive vehicle you are allowed to drive on this beach and it is popular for fishing as well.
I took my mother here for a holiday and she absolutely loved the place. My mother said she would love to see the sunset at the beach but doesn't walk very fast. Patricia then arranged a four wheel drive vehicle to take us down onto the sand and watch the sunset. While I can't promise every guest will get the same opportunity as we had, I'm sure Patricia will do the same for others if she can.
You can drive to the Ludlow Tuart forest for bushwalks or visit the nearby Capel wineries. It is not far from Port Geographe marina where you can enjoy the harbour views from the local tavern. It is only a 10 minute drive along Layman Road into central Busselton where you can enjoy all that Busselton has to offer.
Martin Fields is located on Lockville Rd, just off Layman Road in the locality of Wonnerup.
For further information see
Martin Fields .
Patricia has many repeat guests and now I intend to be among them. My mother really enjoyed just sitting under the gazebo on the island and watching the waterbirds fly around while I did the surrounding walks. As Martin Fields is becoming more known it is advisable to book early, especially during the holiday seasons.
I know where I will be booking my next year's holiday.
