It is priceless when you find a charming bistro/cafe, where not just the food is delicious and the place is really nice, but the staff are always kind and keen to happily serve you.
In Castlecrag, you will find this lovely cosy French restaurant that is perfect for a brunch with friends or for a nice romantic dinner.
Martha's is my friend's favourite meeting place and they speak so highly about Martha's lovely French provincial style decor, fresh bouquets, art-filled walls, white table linen and the attentive staff. The menu is ever changing so the dishes are all seasonal produce.
It was my first visit and immediately I love this refreshing space. When we entered the restaurant, we were greeted by a stunning display of a large bouquet of fresh flowers. They were magnificent splashes of cascading orchids, lillies and daisies and they just set the mood for a nice relaxing evening.
The whole ambience of Martha's was cosy yet chic with its whitewashed walls, tasteful art, and classic French music played in the background. I noticed all waitstaff were dressed in crisp ironed white uniforms like in a five-star hotel! I absolutely love the presentation of a professional attire.
Tonight, Martha's menu looked lavish and quite gourmet. There were many tempting offerings and we decided to order serveral dishes to share.
Like most good-quality restaurants, complimentary bread and butter were presented to us before dinner started. They were simple looking but nevertheless delicious.
My friend ordered the Sea scallops entree paired with smoked chorizo and cauliflower. It was an artistically presented on plate and it was an inviting dish to start. These Sea scallops were seared perfectly, the texture was juicy and tender.
I ordered the Fried zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta and herbs. They were topped with a refreshing grated apple and tomato salad. It was a delicious entree and I wished there were more zucchini flowers!
I have always been a huge fan of Caesar salad and this definitely surpassed my expectations! Some restaurants are stingy in their ingredients and portion but Martha's serving is overly generous.
Martha served the baby cos in whole, seasoned with a lovely creaming dressing, crunchy garlic croutons, anchovies and salty crispy pancetta. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and the deliciousness of this salad that I replicated a similar one at home. The French twice baked Gruyere souffle looked decadent and heart-warming on the plate and it was tremendously rich in taste. The warm Gruyere sauce was deliciously buttery. I highly recommended it.
The Smoked salmon risotto in my opinion was a little disappointing. The flavour was a bit bland, but the food presentation was impeccable.
A meal will not be complete without desserts. We ordered a amaretto Panna cotta to share and it was amazingly yummy. The strawberry sorbet and real rhubarb pieces surrounded a perfect wobbly amaretto Panna Cotta which melted in the mouth.
Everything at Martha's is in line with their country-style theme. The overall atmosphere here will makes you feel like you are away on holiday, which is a nice feeling.
A trip to Martha's is sort of a special occasion. Best enjoyed with good company.
