Swim with tropical fish without visiting the ocean
Imagine being able to go snorkelling from the comfort of your resort and the safety of a swimming pool. No jellyfish or nasty critters to worry about here. So where can I find this resort, you ask? It is at the Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort and Spa.
What makes this place so amazing is not the rainforest style landscaping, the poolside bar, the man made cave with its entrance hidden by a waterfall, or even the sandy bottom of the pool. Although these features add to the atmosphere, it is the range of tropical fish which call this pool home which are the main highlight.
The resort has two pools. A lagoon style saltwater pool filled with tropical fish and a more traditional long swimming pool. The snorkelling saltwater pool ranges in depth which is great if you have small kids. At the shallow end it is less roughly half a metre. At the deep end though it's approximately 4 metres deep. Both ends are landscaped with rocks and crevices amongst the sand, giving the fish endless hiding spots to escape people when they feel the need.
Now when you need a break which you inevitably will, the pool is surrounded by comfy deckchairs and set amongst landscaped rainforest gardens. There's a pool side bar offering a selection of cocktails, snack food and icy poles. They also hire snorkel equipment if you haven't bought your own.
If you don't feel like getting wet, the morning fish feeding at 9:30 am is a great opportunity to see the fish up close and a great way to begin your day in Surfers Paradise.
