Every Sunday between 8.30am and 3.00pm, Addison Road Community Centre comes alive with delicious aromas, jungle beats and plenty of laid back locals seeking tasty food, organic produce and recycled furniture.
Marrickville market has a strong community feel and is more relaxed than weekend markets in other suburbs. It is best enjoyed on a sunny day, when you can savour your bacon and egg roll or vegetarian dosa, in the shade of an old fig tree, or spread out on the grass in the sun.
In addition to the tasty treats to be enjoyed on the spot, the market sells a range of organic produce which can be purchased direct from the farmer. Dairy products, vegetables, eggs, meat, seafood and baked goods are all available. The market is also well known for its bric-a-brac with a number of stalls selling all kinds of pre-loved knick-knacks.
While you’re in the Community Centre it is also worth checking out the Bower Reuse and Repair Centre and Reverse Garbage. Both are local initiatives that collect unwanted items for re-sale. In the Bower you’ll find vintage furniture, bikes, office goods and musical instruments, while at Reverse Garbage you never really know what you’ll find.
