Ever been curious about guns - how they work, what's the feeling like of pulling a trigger, or even whether gunpowder smells?

Or do you want to practise your shooting skills and marksmanship?

Then it's time you take the plunge and check out on Franklin Street.

Conveniently located on the lesser of the hustle and bustle side of the CBD, this place offers you with a variety of shooting options with some of the most classic styles of guns.

The staff at is extremely professional and are willing and able to cater to all your questions, needs, limitations and expectations. Feel free to ask them questions or assistance if you are unsure of how to handle the firearm or what needs to be done for safe loading/unloading purposes. They are well-trained and highly qualified and appear to have a wealth of knowledge, so don't be shy.

It is advised that you make your way to the venue 10-15 minutes prior to the firing, so that you can get the payment and other paperwork out of the way (ID checks).

Then, you are seated to watch a safety information video (which I found very useful) that goes for about 10 minutes (roughly).

Next, you and a group of people will be escorted to the firing range indoors. They will provide you with ear muffs and eye protection. These are going to be a godsend, especially if there's a big group of people who are firing in the two rooms inside. It will get loud in there, so make sure you've taken these precautions.

There are two rooms of firing, and each group of four will be accompanied by a Range Safety Officer who will run through basic safety requirements & shooting tips.

The RSO will tell you when to do what, so keep your ears alert for the instructions and don't hesitate to ask any questions. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Although I was extremely excited to be firing from a gun for the very first time, I was equally anxious and nervous that my clumsiness would ruin the overall experience. The best thing - the most useful tip that I can give you for such situations is to remain calm, think of happy thoughts and take some nice, deep breaths. It's a gun, agreed, but it won't necessarily harm you unless you let it. And take your time when you are aiming. You don't have to be a pro like those guys in Hollywood who go bang bang bang. Breathe in slowly, and while you breathe out, pull the trigger. There is a white dot at the end of the pistol and a bulls-eye-pointer on the revolver to help you get a good shot.

The revolvers were a bit too heavy for my liking, but it was a good indication of how strong and stable one's hands need to be to handle one of these beasts. Upon firing from these guns, there was a fantastic feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction on getting not one, but two shots that were very close to the center target!

If your arms don't see much action at the gym with weights, then prepare to be sore after your visit to the firing range. It's a good type of soreness though, so don't worry too much about it. Maybe don't lift anything heavy for the next couple of days.

It will get loud and scary in there, but remember to take your time and do what you think you'll be comfortable with.

You are more than welcome to bring along a partner - in fact, if you do not have a gun license, then you need to have someone else to participate in the firing range. So grab some friends and make your way to !

And don't worry - it is a fantastic experience and you will truly not regret it!

I don't want to say I love the concept of guns and shooting, but it is truly an exhilarating experience that (personally) I think everyone should have the opportunity of having - at least once in their lifetime.

As an avid believer in survival of the fittest, and as a huge fan of zombie/other forms of apocalypse, I do see this as a necessary skill to be able to handle firearms and have the knowledge of how these dangerous yet nifty pieces of equipment can possibly help you defend yourself against anything that threatens your very existence.
