If it's not one market in this town, it's another. All of them seem to clamour for your wallet's attention. 'Come over this side of the Yarra,' each stall will coo. 'We have the cutest/most inspiring/most ethical/most affordable cute-ness.' It figures, therefore, that you need a helping hand now and then to work out which ones are worth it. MARKiT at Fed Square feels like the new kid on the block, but while it only sets up every few months, it is definately worth the wander.

For one, MARKit runs on Sundays, enclosed by the cozy roof of Federation Square's atrium. Sitting directly in front of NGV Ian Potter, it provides a most civilised afternoon's browsing. And with pop up stalls from our favourite design peeps, like Limedrop and Beci Orpin, it's hard not to exclaim at the cuteness as you wade through the weekend chatter of families and the ultra design conscious.

Like so many Melbourne marketing experiences, it's worth spending the time and battling the bargain hunters with a Zen sense of calm: this will find you the best bargains. Get there early-last Sunday's offerings were on 9-5pm, but by the afternoon the Atrium is warm and crowded.

Regardless of whether you find a purchase,, MARKit's setup has, overall, a mellow Melbourne weekend vibe. Being amongst the gentle bustle reminds me, for one, of what Melbourne is about. And with the next official date in April, you've certainly got enough time to plan your journey.
