Geelong Markets in December 2015

If you haven't done your Christmas shopping yet, there is still a bit of time left, but not much! So if you are looking for a unique gift or a personally crafted gift, you might find what you're looking for at one of the many markets held in Geelong during December. There are also markets held during summer in and around Geelong, from December 2015 through to about March 2016.

When I started to research markets, craft markets, and craft and food markets I was surprised to find that there were so many markets in Geelong. My first problem was how to list them — alphabetically, in date order, my favourites first? I decided to start with the markets being held in December. The markets are in no particular order - just December markets listed first.

Airey's Inlet Community Market is held at the Airey's Inlet Community Hall. It is generally held on the 2nd Sunday of the month, from October to June. Sometimes a few extra markets are thrown in as well.

What better place to browse around a community market, than the beautiful coastal town of Airey's Inlet, located along the Great Ocean Road. When you finish browsing you can enjoy a meal at one of the cafes, restaurants or hotels in the township, or you could purchase food from the market.

The market is held in the hall and the grounds of the hall. There is always a great selection of fresh fruit and vegetables and other produce. You can expect to find some tasty home cooked cakes, slices, jam or cookies. This isn't a huge market, however it prides itself on artisan produce and quality items. Sometimes there are stalls selling photography, paintings, beautiful hand crafts and art, sculptures and other items on sale.

The Airey's Inlet Market runs from 9.00am to 1.00pm. Contact 0402 733 262 for further information.

Geelong Farmers Market

Geelong Farmers Market is held in Little Malop Street. It has dozens of stalls that sell local produce from the region of Geelong. You can purchase gourmet food including jams, biscuits, breads, wines, cheeses, olive oils and sauces. My friend John sometimes walks in from East Geelong specifically to buy the beautiful fresh flowers on sale at the Geelong Farmers Market. You can also buy real organic vegetables direct from the farmer.

There is usually some type of entertainment at the market. Local chefs and cooks may demonstrate how to cook the local produce. The mini cooking classes have become a draw card for the market, with famous people like Chez Jo among the guests. There is also music and other entertainment to make the morning a festive occasion.

There are usually some activities for the children too, with face painting, and a petting farm. Everybody likes to get up close to the baby farm animals. Come and browse the Central Geelong Farmers Market for a few hours and enjoy the entertainment and fresh produce.
