If you haven't done your Christmas shopping yet, there is still a bit of time left, but not much! When I started to research markets, craft markets, and craft and food markets I was surprised to find that there were so many markets in Geelong. Airey's Inlet Community Market is held at the Airey's Inlet Community Hall. It is generally held on the 2nd Sunday of the month, from October to June. Sometimes a few extra markets are thrown in as well.

What better place to browse around a community market, than the beautiful coastal town of Airey's Inlet, located along the Great Ocean Road. When you finish browsing you can enjoy a meal at one of the cafes, restaurants or hotels in the township, or you could purchase food from the market.

The market is held in the hall and the grounds of the hall. There is always a great selection of fresh fruit and vegetables and other produce. You can expect to find some tasty home cooked cakes, slices, jam or cookies. This isn't a huge market, however it prides itself on artisan produce and quality items. Sometimes there are stalls selling photography, paintings, beautiful hand crafts and art, sculptures and other items on sale.

The Airey's Inlet Market runs from 9.00am to 1.00pm. Contact 0402 733 262 for further information.

Geelong Farmers Market

Geelong Farmers Market is held in Little Malop Street. It has dozens of stalls that sell local produce from the region of Geelong. You can purchase gourmet food including jams, biscuits, breads, wines, cheeses, olive oils and sauces. My friend John sometimes walks in from East Geelong specifically to buy the beautiful fresh flowers on sale at the Geelong Farmers Market. You can also buy real organic vegetables direct from the farmer.

There is usually some type of entertainment at the market. Local chefs and cooks may demonstrate how to cook the local produce. The mini cooking classes have become a draw card for the market, with famous people like Chez Jo among the guests. There is also music and other entertainment to make the morning a festive occasion.

There are usually some activities for the children too, with face painting, and a petting farm. Everybody likes to get up close to the baby farm animals. Come and browse the Central Geelong Farmers Market for a few hours and enjoy the entertainment and fresh produce.

On the second Saturday of each month central Geelong's Little Malop Streets between Moorabool and Yarra Streets comes alive with the Geelong Farmers Market. The market has been a popular event since commencing in 2003 and brings a great vibe to the city, attracting thousands for some of the freshest produce and gourmet products.

The Geelong Farmers Market is held year round, on the 2nd Saturday of the month. The Market starts at 9.30am and runs until 12.30pm. the next Geelong Farmers Market will be held on Saturday 12th December.

The market sells fresh and locally grown organic produce, as well as some wonderful locally crafted goods. I used to have a stall here myself. You can usually purchase knitted toys, scarves, baby clothes and more, depending on which stall holders are there on the day. You may also be able to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables, free range meats, eggs, gourmet and arisan foods. If you're looking for Christmas gifts there is also a range of candes, photography, hand made soaps and a range of other creative items available.
