For many years I have resisted Pumpkin Soup. I have no explanation although it certainly isn't because I'm anti soup. Indeed, one of the Christmas rituals for many families, including my own, is cooking the ham bone down to make a thick and hearty broth full of vegetables to stock in the freezer for winter, isn't it?
On a recent chilly morning I succumbed to a bowl of Thai Pumpkin Soup in an effort to beat the cold. It was so warming and delicious - as welł as an utter surprise - that I went on and purchased a pumpkin so that I could experiment and cook up my own batch.
Quite by accident we stumbled upon Market Organics across the road from the Rocklea Sunday Markets on Sherwood Road. This clean, fresh and well lit retail space is the more natural version of your local supermarket selling a wide range of grocery items.
As you expect, the fresh fruit and vegetables are all organic and sourced from local Australian farmers. What's not to love about this?
Various organic fresh breads, all very interesting looking, are also available as well as meats, milk, and other grocery lines. The range of organic tea and coffees was extensive and I just had to add a Licorice and Cinnamon combination to my kitchen pantry for a later date.
Inside this health superstore is an all organic Cafe, Evolve, specialising in organic teas and coffees as well as cold pressed juices. There is a range of light meals and snacks available, including a daily special, which just happened to be ... Thai Pumpkin Soup.
Market Organics is a delightful shopping experience. Firstly, because it is so airy and well presented, and also as it is fun to investigate the different items on the shelves. To be able to stop for a cuppa or a snack is an added bonus.
