I am a freelance writer living in the west side of Melbourne, Victoria. Additional information can be found at: traci-tucker.com/welcome-to-my-site/ and my casual market business: https://www.facebook.com/snoozeezpetbedz
Throughout the cooler months in Melbourne, which just happens to be most of the year, I often find it difficult as a market stall holder, to find local undercover markets for my wares. During the warmer months I am happy to set up my gazebo outside in the sun but in winter it is not something I enjoy doing. Furthermore, the challenge is to find diverse locations and diverse customers without travelling too far.
Recently I stumbled across the Hoppers Crossing Uniting Church Market, which is titled "Market 'n More". Although I was sceptical at first about operating from such an undiscovered market location, I was pleasantly surprised with the professionalism, organisation and pleasantness of the volunteers running the market on the day.
Final Dates for 2014
In addition to the two previous markets held at the church on the 29th of March and the 31st of May, the final two market dates for 2014 are: Saturday the 30th of August 2014 Saturday the 29th of November 2014
The church can be found at 235 Derrimut Road, Hoppers Crossing, Vic 3029 It is located right next door to the Werribee Plaza Shopping Centre, near the new bus terminal.
The cost to visit the market is free. Obviously you will need cash if you decide to purchase any products. The majority of stallholders do not have eftpos facilities, so please bring cash with you. You can however use the banking facilities at the Werribee Plaza if you don't mind the short walk.
Products available at Market 'n More
This market may be more of a boutique style, but it certainly did not disappoint when it came to the product quality, range and prices. Products included new and used, animal beds, toys, clothing, door stops, candles, cards, home wares and much more. No doubt you will find something for every family member at this market.
While you are visiting the market, stop and buy one of the very delicious sausages on bread that are available from the outside sausage sizzle gazebo. You can either have one with or without onion, sauce or mustard. Then wash it down with a refreshing cool drink from the same stall. Just as with the stallholder's payments, the sausage sizzle helps raise much needed money to ensure the church continues to provide services to the local community. Oh and did I say how deliciously yummy the sausage was…..
Once you have finished buying products from the market, why not venture into the 'Take2 Opportunity Shop' at the rear of the church. You will find a range of pre-loved items for sale. All of which are at very affordable prices.
Here you will find items ranging from jewellery and clothing to books, games, toys and electrical goods. In fact you could spend quite a bit of time looking around the boutique-style store.
Food and Drinks
In addition to the sausage sizzle stall, the church has its very own permanent café on site. Here again you will be tempted by the yummy food for sale, which can be washed down with a deliciously hot coffee. If you need a quick break from all of the shopping, you can sit back and relax in the chairs provided either at the café or further back near the op-shop entrance.
Not only is there the market, op-shop, sausage sizzle and café, you can also be entertained by the angelic singing and inspiring dance routines in the church itself. These are all performed by the local schools and are a pleasure to watch and listen to.
