The opening of the latest Market Lane Coffee offering on Faraday St in Carlton is testimony to the love affair that Melburnians have with pop-up stores (and quality coffee brews). Open for the next three months, Market Lane Coffee has set up shop next to Baker D. Chirico , the artisan bakery known for its mouth-watering bread and pleasant pastries, serving up a formidable partnership between the two honchos in the business.

The pop-up store is diminutive in size and you would be forgiven for walking past it without a second look. Appearing more like a residence than a place of business, you almost feel like you're intruding when you sneak a furtive glance inside the shop-front window, which is quickly replaced by a feeling of curiosity when you notice the flow of activity inside.

Walking in, the interior is simple and inviting; it is not as sparse as the other Market Lane Coffee stores and offers more warmth due to its limited space. The air of intimacy is palpable as you watch the baristas brew your coffee, even having the choice of waiting outside to have your coffee passed to you through the open window if time is of the essence.

The coffee itself doesn't disappoint and Market Lane offers a hipster-chic alternative to the traditional Italian blended coffee which is so prevalent on nearby Lygon Street.

It's almost sad to think that this pop-up will be leaving in three months' time. Here's hoping they change their mind.
