On Saturday, September 21, my 17-year-old son and I attended the Mario Kart Live 2024 event at The Sporting Globe Bar & Grill, and it was an unforgettable evening of gaming, music, and camaraderie. For just $25 each, we got to experience a truly unique twist on a classic favourite: Mario Kart Wii played on the big screen, accompanied by a live band performing the iconic soundtrack in real-time.

A Night to Remember
The Sporting Globe was buzzing with excitement when we arrived. We got there early, which turned out to be a great decision. It gave us time to enjoy a drink and some delicious food before the action began, and it also meant we secured a prime spot to soak in the atmosphere. The venue was packed, but the energy was infectious as fans of all ages gathered to celebrate this one-of-a-kind gaming event.

Everyone was given a raffle ticket upon entry, and the anticipation was palpable as the numbers were called. Four lucky participants in each round got to compete on the big screen while the live band reacted dynamically to their every move. Whether players snagged a star, hit a banana peel, or entered the final lap, the music transformed to match the action, adding a layer of excitement and immersion you’d never get at home.

A Winning Moment
To our delight, my son’s raffle number was called, and he got the chance to race. Not only did he play, but he also won the race, much to his excitement and the crowd’s applause. Watching him up there, completely immersed in the game while the band played and the audience cheered, was an incredible moment.

What struck me most about the event was how inclusive and engaging it was. People weren’t just there to game—they were dancing to the music, cheering on the players, and truly enjoying themselves. Seeing gamers socialising in such a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere was fascinating.
