I'm a mother of four with two coeliac children. I'm always on the lookout for great gluten-free spots around Brisbane and feature gluten-free cooking in my blog: coeliacfamily.blogspot.com.au I'm also a muso and enjoy live music around town.

Treat yourself without feeling guilty
gluten free organic breakfast vegan gold coast cafe
Marie Anita's is at Mermaid Beach on the Gold Coast

Coeliac or Gluten Intolerant? Get ready for gluten-free heaven at this Gold Coast Cafe & Bakery! On the main road in Mermaid Beach, we almost drove past this fantastic little cafe, which boasts healthy, organic, gluten-free and vegan treats. After finding a park (a little tricky) we ventured in and were greeted with a cafe with a homely, old-world feel to it.

You'll find treats to purchase in the cake cabinet and on the walls

Our coeliac family members raced to the cake cabinet, excited to see a variety of yummy looking treats. Everything in the cake cabinet is gluten-free, cane sugar-free, organic and vegan. There was also a range of drinks to be had, including hot and iced coffees, cacao and chai, along with raw juices and blends - all organic of course, and only sweetened with ingredients such as raw sugar and dates.

Had we not already eaten, we would definitely have ordered from the all-day breakfast menu. With treats such as artisan fruit toast, smashed avo with house kraut & greens and the Big Breakfast (potato hash, smoky mexi beans, avocado, grilled cherry tomatoes, GF toast and smoky sour cream and greens, the choice would have been tricky.

The lunch menu is just as exciting - roasted cauliflower salad with charred almonds and chickpeas, crispy Vietnamese crepes, blue corn nachos, soft tacos and pizzas, you are spoiled for choice. Everything is gluten-free and vegan - so no dietary issues, oh and did I mention that the cheese is cashew cheese?

We enjoyed our vegan cacao treats (salted caramel is always a winner!) and decided to buy a loaf of gluten-free bread from the wide bakery selection. The loaf was full of healthy seeds and was really heavy - having it over the next few days was great - extremely filling and tasty. The owners' philosophy is simple - they understood that the community lacked an option from the pre-existing businesses for a cafe and bakery focused on health and nutrition. The cafe supports local growers and producers of organic foods while bringing their customers luscious greens, raw creations, charred organic vegetables, exotic grains and range of vibrant colours. Along with local providores, the walls are adorned with work by local artists, which is also for sale.
