A new era of sophistication is developing in Bali as iconic Beach Bars, such as
Old Mans, make way for stylish clubs. Whether you love it or hate it, change is afoot as tourism returns to Bali and construction marches further along the south-west coast. The new kid on the beach is Mari, just north of Seminyak, at Batu Belig.

Designed as a 'one stop shop', each club offers dining and refreshments, music and entertainment and myriad options to while away beach time in comfort.

Unlike other steel and concrete construction of some Bali beach clubs, Mari aims to blend environmentally. Local stone has been used for paved areas and a series of pavilions are made from bamboo and thatch.

Inspired by Agung
The largest pavilion is inspired by Agung, Bali's largest and most revered mountain.
Decorative features hanging from the ceilings represent
penjor, the ceremonial decorations constructed for
Galungan holy festival.

Penjor feature at Mari Beach Club
Mari loosely translates to 'come along' in Indonesian. Lounge areas invite guests to come and sit with friends and enjoy a drink or a bite to eat.

A 'river' winds its way through Mari offering a swimming option for those who prefer to look at the ocean rather than swim in it.

Winding river
Mari is beautiful by night.

The sound of nearby waves add to the ambience created by lighting.

The river at night
Reflections on the 'river' create twice as many lights.

A balmy night at Mari Beach Club
A fire pit provides a contrasting element to the water.

On a recent visit to Mari, we encountered welcoming staff who are clearly proud of their club and eager to cater for guests as tourism increases once again.

Cocktail bar ar Mari Beach Club
We ordered cocktails (Falernum Sour and Espresso D'Mari) for Rp130,000 plus tax which worked out to around $15Aus each.

We enjoyed the view and the ambience for free.
