I am always looking out for new experiences, wherever I may find myself.
On Sunday February 22, tens of thousands of people will converge on Victoria Park for the major opening weekend event of Mardi Gras. It will be a whole day of fun, running from 10.00am to 8.00pm.
Michael Rolik, Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras CEO, explains why so many people choose to attend; "It's the perfect way for not only the LGBTQI community, but also their families, friends and supporters, to all get together and enjoy a blissful day of fun, food and festivities in the sun."
Free entertainment will run the entire time, hosted by Justin Hill of 2DAYFM's Scoopla. In the morning that means things like yoga, but over the course of the you you'll get DJs, kids shows, comedy, cabaret, dance, and more.
In special areas you'll find the DoggyWood show, stalls (there are over 200 this year) and a women's zone. Individual programs will run in particular locations: Bear Tree, the YourGen Area, Trans and Gender Diverse Area, and the Sports Village.
If you choose to cycle to the event, you will be able to take advantage of free bike valet parking.
The Mardi Gras Festival itself stretches from Friday February 20 to Sunday March 8. One of the main events is, of course, the parade, which will be on Saturday March 7.
