It's been over 2 years since the Marche family opened the doors to its beautiful boutique bakery, Marche du Macaron in Gordon Park. As the name suggests, they specialise in the French meringue-based confection, the macaron. Now they have ventured into a second store, with the opening of the Marche Kitchen in Ashgrove. This store is somewhat of a homecoming for the Marche family who grew up in this inner city, leafy suburb of Ashgrove just 5km from the CBD. Having been a fan of the Gordon Park store, I visited the new Ashgrove addition with great delight to make sure that the rumours of its opening were in fact true.

I wasn't mistaken. The black sign outside reassured me that indeed they had arrived. The Marche Kitchen opened its doors from 6:30am on Thursday 8 June 2017 and once again specialises in sweet, delectable sensations including the macaron. There is some debate about the origin of this classic sweet treat, but some suggest that the macaron was created in 1791 in a convent near Cormery in the centre of France. The handmade Marche-styled light French confections are a work of art – soft, colourful and made with love. With a variety of flavours including strawberry and lime, macarons are $4.00 each and filled with ganache and can be accompanied with your Di Bella coffee.

What is the venue like?
Like the Gordon Park site, Marche Kitchen has a sleek, fresh monochrome palette of charcoal and white. Lots of slender subway tiles finish the look. A beautiful bunch of fresh, cream roses greeted me at the counter along with friendly smiles of the staff. The kitchen, where the tasty morsels are created can be seen from behind the front counter. Outdoor black Di Bella umbrellas, French styled wicker chairs and potted greenery offers a pretty resting space to enjoy your purchases and watch the local streetscape.

Where can I find it?
The Marche Kitchen is located on Frasers Road, off Stewarts Road and runs parallel to Oakleigh State School. Some parking is available in a small carpark outside the shop, otherwise street parking is available. The bus also stops right outside the shop.
Marche Kitchen is a delightful new addition to the Ashgrove foodie scene and will give dedicated francophiles a Parisian hit without leaving Brisbane.
