The Avon Valley's premier cultural event, The York Festival (25 Sep-10 Oct 2021) celebrates excellence in arts, culture and entertainment in historic York, Western Australia. The March Mini-Fest on 6 & 7 March 2021 is a one weekend teaser and a prelude to the main festival. It's shouting out we are still here as a reminder to Festival followers and re-engages the local community in collaborative arts and culture experiences that still contribute to the economic development of the region. The Program is free or very low cost arts and cultural activities that'll run over the weekend.
The focus is to uplift, entertain, amuse and inspire. On the program so far is live music, poetry slam competitions, opera on a truck, trail hikes, kid's escape room, live art classes, cookery workshops, find the feature race, York convict walk - and more. Running at various times, See here for events. You'd have to be fit and an early riser for the Morning Star Trail Hike as the hike leader takes you from Avon Park to the summit of Mount Brown. Yoga in the Park seems to be the obvious way to wind down with a morning Vinyasa Class in the open air.
There's nothing like an attitude of gratitude to get us through the hard times, and you'll get your chance to help create York's very own Bridge of Gratitude by writing on a gratitude ribbon then tie it to the swing bridge.
There are other events where you can learn to make pasta, ferment vegetables, have a live art class or simply listen to Saturday Arvo Tunes in Avon Park. Why not organise a BBQ, enjoy an ice cream, and chill to the tunes in the park while the kids play on the waterslides. Join Gracie B, Skelton and Chris Gibbs at this free music event. There's something for everyone, so be sure to keep the weekend free.
