You know how we often go walk-about and admire the 'prettiness' of the surrounding nature, with absolutely no idea what we are actually looking at? Or … attempt to 'weed' our own backyard, but literally can't fathom whether it's indigenous to Australia or not? This is where the free guided walks at the Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Garden are so beneficial, giving us the necessary knowledge and know-how on how to care for our gardens, whilst attracting local fauna, birds and bees.

Learning about the forest giants of the Maroochy Botanic Garden, with the help of a friendly and knowledgeable guide, will be pretty majestic! That's not even 'punny'! Walkers will be shown how to identify specific tree features; will learn the historical significance of timber during early European settlement times and most importantly … what crucial role these forest giants play in supporting other species in the forest. How exciting will it be if you come across some of the cute critters that call these magnificent trees, home.

Literally … let's talk about the birds and the bees! The Australian bush has many species going about their daily life, in a quest for survival. But, if one looks closer, we will soon discover that there are many species that actually exist in symbiotic (mutually beneficial) relationships and are actually reliant on each other for survival.

Join one of the Maroochy Bushland Botanic Garden guides for a knowledgeable walk through the gardens, where walkers will learn some of the fascinating ways that species work together in the pursuit of food, sex and reproduction . Not for the bashful!

The Remarkable Rare and Threatened Plants guided walk should be well … remarkable! Walkers will get to see the rare and endangered plants that have found refuge at the Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Garden, as well as learn how the Botanic Garden plays an integral part in conserving local and endemic species. Enjoy seeing what plants are flowering and what plants are fruiting or just marvel at Mother Nature's incredible variety of leaf shapes and sizes.

Another roar-some walk to go on - Walking with Dinosaurs ! For two hundred million years dinosaurs roamed the earth and as one can imagine the plant life and land masses looked very different to what they look today. Join a friendly guide for a leisurely stroll through the Botanic Garden, focusing on the types of plants that were around during the dinosaur age.

The First Nations People and early settlers were very dependant on local native plants as a source of food. On the Native Plants - Foods and Uses guided walk, walkers will learn about the important bush tucker foods that grow locally on the Sunshine Coast. The fun part is, keen gardeners will get to smell and taste some of these plants, which can all be grown in local gardens.

Every month between February and November, the Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Garden offers a diverse range of free guided walks, with the starting meet-up point at the Arts and Ecology Centre, within the Botanic Garden. Due to the popularity of these walks and that they are totally free, registration is absolutely essential. The availability that I have indicated, is correct at time of writing.
