You cannot meander up the main street of Maleny without popping into this wonderful fresh food organic co-op, and rightly so. Last year they took out the Sunshine Coast Business Award for Retail and the Sunshine Coast Council Environment Award. After 33 years in business, they're doing something right.

This co-op is full to the brim of wonderful mostly organic items, organic skin care, bio-cane bowls and plates, herbal remedies and everything/anything au naturale.

Wander around and I bet you can't leave empty handed. It's nigh on impossible. I thought I was doing well until spotting the organic soap and remembered I needed to buy another couple of bars. Still, it's good to support a local co-op, one that started out on a shoe string budget and with lots of local help, volunteers and savvy management keeps going from strength to strength.



Lately they have been becoming more 'green' and have fitted out their building with LED lights reducing energy consumption. They no longer stock plastic water bottles. Instead, you can take your water bottle in and re-fill it for a small fee. There's also a veggie garden, of course.

And yes, I found a range of preservative free cordials and wines (most importantly) tucked away down the aisles.


The Maple Street Co-op is one of those stores that makes you feel instantly comfy. It has a homey feel, like you've been there before and could curl up in the corner with a good book, snack on organic choccy and sip a mug of chai tea. Hmm, now there's an idea.
