The Canberra Civic area is home to a big variety of dining establishments, several interesting pubs and nightclubs and a large shopping precinct. Close by are the famous attractions such as the Australian War Memorial , Burley Griffin Lake Burley Griffin and House Parliament house . So when traveling to Canberra it is always good to stay close to the action.

The offers just that. Situated just a few minutes walk from the city centre the Mantra is a four star, nine storey hotel right on Northbourne Avenue.

Rooms on both sides of the hotel can expect views spanning out over Canberra and it's mountainous surrounds. Small balconies provide a quiet spot to watch the world go by as you plan your day's adventures.

The rooms themselves are big. Separated into two sections, the living room features some very comfortable lounges, flat screen TV with digital channels, a small kitchen area with all the extras and a dining table big enough for four.

The bedrooms are very roomy. You have the option of two king singles or one queen size bed, both adorned with elegant feather blankets and enough pillows to make a fort! Of course there's the bedside tables complete with reading lights and alarms as well as another table for business travellers to get to work.

Outside the rooms the Mantra offers leisure facilities too. The gym is free to use and has all the equipment you need to work of the extra food we tend to consume on vacation. There is a large sauna to relax after a day of exploring, and a pool... which is a little disappointing. I haven't been to many hotels, but compared to resort pools it is poor, it is even smaller than my backyard pool.

Business travellers have all the necessities right at their doorstep. WiFi is available for a very generous price and runs off hours instead of MB. The conference rooms are spacious and well away from the informal holiday goers. The lobby itself is decorated with elegant lighting, tidy yet artistic wall paintings and more of those brilliantly comfy couches!

Of course there is an on site restaurant as well. The Zip restaurant caters for guests from breakfast to dinner with a Mediterranean style menu, buffet and drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic).

Whether it's a business or leisure holiday your after, can accommodate you. Prices vary according to demand and you have an abundance of activities to explore right on your doorstep. And of course, if your struggling for ideas you can always ask the friendly staff.
