Simple Yet Stylish

At the top end of Greenhill Road, and hidden discreetly by a discouraging series of No through Road signs lies a rather special street.

You won't find it on Google Streetview as the occupants clearly value their privacy.

But every house in the street is worth well over $1 million and probably closer to $2 million.

Unusual Lines

The newest property, on a double block, will be worth at least $4 million when completed.

Wave to the Neighbours on the Next Hill

These mansions in Adelaide have sweeping city views and of course are as opulent inside as their magnificent exteriors would suggest.

You Should See the Other Side!

One property boasts 7 bedrooms, enough parking for a fleet of Mercedes, a tennis court, swimming pool, spa and waterfall. To save your energy after all that exercise, a dumb waiter runs from the kitchen to the garage with its own living quarters. Very handy if your in-laws come to stay - you don't even need to see them at meal times.

The property recently sold for around $1,000 per square metre.

Stunning City Views

From the street, a few houses appear fairly simple and plain designs, but the side that faces the view is far more expansive and imposing. A number are landscaped to provide privacy from the few passers by who stray into the street.

Landscaping With Sharp Security

However the latest addition to the street dwarfs all the other mansions. Sited over two house allotments, this palatial two storey edifice is architecturally imposing and will be unique in Adelaide when completed.

The ground floor alone will be some 1300 square metres, there will be six bedrooms and parking for over 10 cars. The rainwater tank will have an environmentally friendly capacity of 100,000 litres. Despite the grand and unusual design, neighbours have welcomed the new addition to the street.

Would You Call This Elegant?

While taste is a very personal perspective, I feel that some of these mansions in Adelaide's upper reaches are quite elegant, and may well stand the test of time to become classic heritage homes.

While in a completely different class from Carramar, will they look attractive in 100 years?

Set in a Water Wise Garden

Whichever you think is most desirable, all of these houses have been lavished with care. Even the gates can be works of art.

These houses do look wonderful. I am not sure if I could afford to live in one of them thoug. I will stick with my 3 bedroom brick veneer home in Geelong. Good article by the way.
