Get fit today
The lack of hills in Perth has made Jacob's Ladder in Kings Park a popular place for fitness training. This was the only fitness staircase in Perth until recently. But now an equivalent outdoor facility in Manning Park in Hamilton Hill has opened, so people living in the southern suburbs won't have to travel so far to get fit.
The brand new Manning Park Steps
The 'Manning Steps' is the provisional name for the brand new exercise steps. In fact, they are so new that the lookout at the top still has to be completed, but already the staircase is popular with local fitness fanatics.
New lookout coming soon
When I conquered the 192 steps on Sunday afternoon, there were at least a dozen other people going up and down them. For people just beginning their journey to fitness, there are several rest spots with seats where they can take a break if they need to and enjoy the views.

The Manning Steps are part of the City of Cockburn's plan to complete the Davilak Trail circuit in Manning Park and provide easy access to the hill lookout. The stairway starts from the southern car park at Manning Lake (at the south end of Davilak Avenue) and leads up to the eastern lookout, where there are spectacular views towards the Darling Scarp and Cockburn Sound.

Although the Manning Steps is fifty steps less than the 242 steps up Mt Eliza on Jacob's Ladder, that just means you have to go up and down a few more times for the equivalent amount of exercise. So, whether you're training for a hike in Nepal or just want to get a bit fitter for summer, climbing the Manning Steps is a good place to begin.
My 78 year old wife, with both hips replaced , and other orthopedic problems , wandered up the steps , and is feeling better for it.
So no reason why others cannot have fun doing it.Easy 'climb' with perfectly designed steps [192 of them].
Have photo to prove she got there on my FB Page
