Manly To Dee Why Beach - 7K approx - allow 4 hours - a reasonable fitness level is required.

Mother Nature was kind enough to supply a path for the best part of this journey and man added the extra walkways where necessary. On this walk you can take a picnic, a swim or stop at cafes and restaurants along the way. Full of 'wow' views, you will find yourself returning again and again.

You can get to Manly by bus or Ferry. To commence the walk start at the beach end of The Corso in Manly by the steps. You can either kick off your shoes and walk along the sand which is very good for the muscles in the feet which we rarely use, or simply walk along the promenade heading towards Queenscliff Beach.

When you reach Queenscliff natural pool you may want to take a little diversion to visit the wormhole. Marked by a large painted red heart. Have a peep into this weather beaten tunnel formed in the rock to look like something from outer space. You can follow the rock path around to Freshwater beach if you are feeling ambitious as a little climbing is involved.

If not, simply take the steps on the left from the promenade at Queenscliff beach and head North. Cross the road and take 3 further flights of steps. Good test of stamina here. Follow the road forward to a winding path which takes you down to Freshwater beach. Once again you can kick off your shoes and let your toes wiggle in delight in the sand. I love to let the oceans edge bathe my feet in cool clear water.

Head towards Freshwater beach pool and pass it by walking along the flat rocks on the left. Or if you prefer, you can follow the path by taking the steps on the left of the pool. Some of the best ocean views can be seen from here.

Once you follow the rocky paths and negotiate your way through lovely rock pools, you will see a wooden path structure. Follow this to South Curl Curl, known by the locals as Curly Beach. Stop for a coffee and a cake or a lovely sandwich at the cafe where you can watch the world go by as long as you wish. There are toilets here and opportunity to fill water bottles from the bubblers provided along the way.

It's a must to remove your shoes here as you walk along the sand to North Curl Curl beach. Windsurfers and Kite surfers colour the sky with their sails and antics making for some fabulous shots. You'll feel a million miles away from all your worries here. When you have reached the end of the beach and arrived at the surf club take the steps up to the road.

There are toilets here and facilities to wash the sand off your feet. We always bring a little towel with us. Shoes back on, we head towards the marked walkway on your right which begins with a few steps. Follow the leafy green path which is well marked. You can choose to go down and look at the pool or turn left and stay on the main track - this is all marked. You will find that you need to give way to other walkers and they to you. The path is quite narrow however it is lined with plants, flowers and aromas that you will love. A lizard or two will scuttle past. This part of the walk has lots of look outs where the views are breathtaking allowing you to rest and simply enjoy the spectacular ocean scenery.

You'll wind your way past some lovely homes with enviable views as you keep to the path towards Dee Why beach. As you emerge from the path once again you can see Long Reef headland up ahead and you will hear lots of children splashing around in the large open air swimming pools. The waves may well be crashing over the pool and this is a grand sight to see if you are there on a really windy day.

On the left of the beach are the many cosmopolitan cafes, restaurants and bars where you can have a leisurely lunch with a glass of wine or simply sit on the beach watching families and friends, all having fun in the sand and the sun.

You can catch a bus or a cab back to Manly or walk along the road if you don't feel like doing the whole thing in reverse. Don't forget essential items such as a hat, sunscreen, water bottle and your camera. You may like to bring a swimming costume and a towel too.
