An artist and freelance writer, I enjoy exploring the city with my children and the never ending quest for great coffee.

Are you looking for somewhere different to take the kids for a dip on these hot summer days? If you are, the Manly Swimming Pool might be just the spot.
Manly Swimming Pool is situated right on the coast, near the corner of The Esplanade and Cardigan Parade. It is a smallish pool, but has a couple of big attractions.
For the younger children there is a lovely toddler's pool complete with water sprinklers and mini water slide. This area is fenced off from the main pool, so you wont have to worry about the little ones straying into deeper water.
For the older children there is a two loop water slide, which provides lots of thrills. The water slide ends in a shallow pond rather than in the swimming pool, so even children who aren't confident swimmers can enjoy it.
Half of the pool is covered with a shade sail but it does get a little crowded under there on hot days. The change rooms are spacious and have plenty of individual changing areas for privacy and warm showers.
As a parent, I really appreciate the ample supply of shaded seating, picnic tables and deck chairs at Manly pool. There are some nice shaded grassy areas and to top it off, you get a lovely view of the yachts in Manly Harbour.
When the kids have finished swimming, another treat is in store. If you head out the jetty directly behind the pool you will find a modern and spacious cafe called the Jetty Kiosk.
We went to the Jetty Kiosk for the first time this week and I was very impressed. The cafe is right on the jetty and all the walls open up so you can enjoy the beautiful sea breezes off Moreton Bay. There's coffee and cakes for the adults and a good selection of ice creams for the children.
I enjoyed an iced coffee and a very decadent chocolate and salted caramel tart. They also do lunches, so if your children are old enough to go to the pool unsupervised, you could drop them at the pool and head out the jetty for a relaxing lunch.
My children are not quite old enough for that plan yet, so I took them with me to the cafe, where they were made very welcome by the lovely staff. They were thrilled when given some scraps of bread to feed the fish below while they waited for their drinks.
You can catch the train to Manly and stroll just under 1 km through the main shopping area of Cardigan Parade down to the pool. If you make your visit on the third Saturday of the month you might even catch the Jan Powers Farmer's Market in the parkland right outside the pool's front entrance.
Manly Pool and the Jetty Kiosk make a great casual day out that all the family will enjoy.
Perhaps your family will be cooling off in Manly this weekend.
