The annual Manly Masquerade Ball will take place on Saturday November 24 at the International College of Management, on the grounds of St. Patrick's Estate on the north shore. The evening will include a three-course dinner, a 'fun' casino, auctions, a raffle and a money tree, with Kate Leahy and her band back to perform again. The co-hosts for the evening are Andrew Morello, winner of Australia's first Apprentice and the night's auctioneer, and Channel Nine journalist Sarah Harris. The dress code is strictly black tie (masquerade of course). As Nicola Cole, Head of the Ball's Organising Committee, has said, "Following a sell out event last year, we're gearing up for an even bigger and better ball in 2012."
The night's schedule is as follows: 6.00pm: Champagne Reception on the Lawn 6.30pm: Enter the Great Hall 7.00pm: Auction 7.30pm: Fine dining 9.00pm: Dancing
As you may have guessed from the many money-making activities, there is more to this event than having a great night out. Its purpose is to raise money for Bear Cottage, New South Wales' only children's hospice, with the night's target set at $100,000. Bear Cottage was established in 2001 and is located in Manly overlooking the beach. It helps children with life-limiting illnesses and their families cope. A team of nurses, doctors, therapists, cooks, cleaners and volunteers work hard to create a home-like environment where families can concentrate on enjoying spending precious time with each other. The cottage costs $2.7 million to operate each year and this money is all raised by fundraisers like the Manly Masquerade Ball.
