The October long weekend (
Sat 5 to Mon 7 Oct 2019 - 10am to 6pm each day) is shaping up to be one of great music in the heart of beautiful Manly at
The Corso, Manly Beach, Sydney. A variety of sounds will fill the air and your souls, including traditional New Orleans jazz to funk, Latin, fusion, blues, gospel, swing and roots at the
Manly Jazz event put on by the
Northern Beaches Council and it's all

This year's headline act is internationally renowned bassist
Rodney Whitaker who is considered to be one of the leading performers and teachers of the jazz double bass in the United States. To see more of

Directors Choice Concert - Sun 6 Oct 2019 from 7.45pm to 10.45pm: Whitaker joins the all-star high school band to perform original arrangements transcribed from Duke Ellington's repertoire.
Improvisation Workshop - Sun 6 Oct 2019 from 12pm to 1pm: Whitaker will cover jazz rhythms, melody, jazz harmony, the importance of jazz language and more
Band Workshop - Sat 5 Oct 2019 from 10am to 11am: Whitaker will cover topics like interpretation and expression, basic musicianship techniques, soulfulness, rhythm section fundamentals and more, so come learn from an industry expert

Jade Macrae - raw soul delivered with a unique blend of vulnerability and power
Andrew Speight - clear-toned, hard-driving alto sax player and one of San Francisco's most lively and lyrical exponents of straight-ahead, joyous jazz
Uncle Jed - spine-tingling performances from a family band of sellout shows

Manly Arts Festival is still running
till Sunday 29 September 2019. Community based, this Festival has visual, musical, literary and performing arts events featuring prominent musicians and visual artists. You'll find them in a number of venues including art studios,
Manly Art Gallery & Museum , the
Creative Space and
Glen Street Theatre . There's plenty to
SEE (exhibitions),
HEAR (performances) and
PARTICIPATE (workshops) in, with a range of creative learning opportunities to explore and enjoy.
