If your idea of a perfect location is to dine near the Harbour, then you will love the newly refurbished Manly 16ft Skiff Sailing Club. Unlike most of Manly's restaurants and bars that cover the hub from Manly Beach to the Wharf, the Skiff Club is located only a short stroll along Fairlight going south next to the Manly Yacht Club. After enjoying many past occasions at Manly Skiff club when I heard it had been totally refurbished I was anxious to check it out. We arrived with plenty of time to enjoy the sunny afternoon before Sunset.
We could see the $1.6 million expenditure on the new fit-out was well spent. The prime waterfront location and makeover bringing it on Par with Manly's favourites, Hugos, Papa Chulos and the Manly Wharf Bar. A total new look had been created with light timber decking throughout, a new roof top that opens and closes when required, modern outdoor bar, brand new kitchen and toilets. The final effect is a stunning modern alfresco atmosphere with plenty of natural light.
The Bistro menu on offer is in typical of what you would expect of a Seaside venue with the tried and true favourites of Fish and Chips, Seafood Baskets, Burgers, Pizzas, Salads and their much loved Seafood Platter. Look at the size of the Chicken Parmigiana!
It truly is one of Manly's perfect locations to enjoy the evening sunset while enjoying a chilled Wine and seafood. Plenty of patrons were taking photos against the stunning backdrop of Manly Cove and Sydney Harbour.
Even with the grand refurbishment this venue still has retained a casual feel as not only a welcoming place for the club's avid sailors, but also for young families, groups of friends, singles - young and old.
They offer a few special nights - such $10 steaks on Mondays, Trivia night, Fish & Chip night and Live music every Saturday and Sunday afternoon; click here for details.
On the night I was there they had a large 50th Birthday in the main bar area and also a reunion in their private function room which seats up to 80 guests or 120 guests for a cocktail function. It looked to me an ideal place for a function.
Last year I attended a New Year's Eve Jungle theme party at the Skiff club. It was a fantastic night with a great turnout of people. Some were in Jungle safari dress which was a good laugh. They served fresh oysters, canapés and pizzas to all the party goers, also providing a live band and dance floor which was packed with party goers as the night wore on. Here is a flashback pic of the night. I'm keen to go again this year.
Keep in mind that if you live within a 5kms radius you must be signed in by a member or join. Membership offers great benefits such as a $100 bar credit, 10% off food and 20% of beverages, also discounts on events and function room hire. Otherwise anyone else outside of that radius is very welcome to sign in as a visitor.
So if you haven't been here in a while it is now the perfect time and weather to check it out. If you have never been, I'm sure you can see it will be worth a visit.
