This spring, on Sunday 29 October 2017, come along to the Mandurah Children's Festival. This free family event sees the Eastern foreshore of Mandurah transform into a vibrant, lively and interactive playground; a wondrous place where kids and their parents can throw themselves into fun activities to learn and to use their imagination in a safe and friendly environment. This year, the theme of the festival is Discovery.
Interactive Workshops
The festival offers opportunities for kids of all ages, from toddlers to school-aged kids, inviting them to discover the world they live in. These interactive workshops include:
Create a Caterpillar: Learn how to use simple materials such as paper plates and craft materials, to create and decorate your very own caterpillar to take home with you.
Design a Butterfly: Move on to design your own butterfly out of pegs and pretty patty pans.
Paper Magic Origami: Learn the age-old Japanese art of paper folding to create paper art.
Hanging Seasons Mobile: Create a hanging seasons mobile to take home.
Peel Multicultural Association: Learn about other countries and how children from those countries dress up.
WA Museum: Love dinosaurs? Then participate in dinosaur themed craft activities, learn about creatures from prehistory and have a roaring good time.
Mandurah Environment and Heritage Group: Discover something closer to home and learn about beach combing, sand castles and different shells.
Playtime Early Learning: Early learners have the opportunity to make their own kaleidoscope to take home.
Mandurah Drummers Inc.: Feel the rhythm, feel the beat and discover drumming and the joyous benefits of music.
Rock Painting: Meet the City of Mandurah mosquito operations team, paint your own rock, or catch live mosquito larvae and discover what they look like close-up.
Free Activities
If that isn't enough, more free activities include viewing solar flares using a purpose built solar telescope provided by e-stronomy, exploring Scitech's science wonderland filled with interactive exhibits, puzzles, and awesome technology, participating in a discovery dig, enjoying bouncy castles, riding a merry go round of giant toys, visiting animals from Peel Zoo, learning to identify objects in parks from the City of Mandurah community safety team, and climbing, balancing and playing in a designated area setup by the City of Mandurah Recreation Centre.
Free Dress up Competition
If you're aged between 0 and 12, don't forget to dress in your best costume based on this year's theme of discovery for a chance to win a prize. All participants in this free competition go home with a prize.
Free stage entertainment
There will be plenty of entertainment on stage to keep families occupied including music and dance.
Food Vans & Market Stalls
The festival will also host a number of stalls including food vans, market stalls and Mandjar Markets to keep your tummies happy.
Inclusive
It is also commendable that this year's Mandurah Children's Festival aims to be more inclusive by providing changing places (behind the Visitor's Centre), a drop off / pick up zone (located in the rotunda car park near toilet block), ACROD and general parking (adjacent to the foreshore on Mandurah Terrace), inclusive activities, an Auslan interpreter at the main stage, and a sensory rest stop (located opposite the rotunda at the centre of the foreshore) designed for those wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of the festival.
The Liberty Swing, for people who utilised wheelchairs, is located on the Eastern foreshore within the Mandurah Children's Festival.
The event is shaping up to be a wonderful way to enjoy a spring Sunday.
