When I first heard about the Crab Fest in Mandurah, the sheer premise of a festival centred around crabs definitely piqued my interest. Was this a celebration of crabs in terms of its scrumptiousness as a cuisine? Or was it a festival dedicated to revering crabs itself?

When I did a bit more research, I found out that the Crab Fest was not just about crabs themselves but consisted of a variety of events showcasing Mandurah's beautiful Peel-Harvey Estuary as a vibrant arts and cultural foreshore, as well as enjoying Mandurah's seafood selection.

On the 14th and 15th of March, visit Mandurah's premier annual community and tourism event where you can dine with Channel Seven celebrities at the Charity Long Table Lunch with a full seafood menu designed by 2014 My Kitchen Rules finalists, Chloe and Kelly, with delicious treats such as chilled oysters, house cured salmon bruschetta with avocado, greens with fried quail egg with ceviche sauce and pan fried north west Red Emperor with micro herb and slaw salad.

If you are a fan of Dean Ray from X Factor, he will be performing at the crab fest music stage at 7.45 pm. A free and unticketed activity, enjoy music from Dean and other local and national entertainment artists such as Mental as Anything, X Factor's Sydnee Carter before the fireworks extravaganza at 8.30pm on Saturday the 14th of March.

Children and adults alike will be delighted by the live Paddington Bear Movie stage show on Saturday at 11.15, 12.30, 13.45 and 14.20 and on Sunday at 11.00, 12.15, 13.40 and 14.15. Join Paddington as he visits Mandurah as part of his search for a home. There is also two Constable Care puppet shows for the family to enjoy – the Celebration show and the Summer show as well as an electrifying Dyzzy-Pulse Circus show and a visit from Pop the Magician with a bright and interactive magic show.

If you are passionate about cooking, who better to learn from than the My Kitchen Rules contestants. Join 2015 MKR WA Contestants Kat and Andre and Eva as they feature on the Good Guys Cooking Stage both days of the Crab Fest. Nova 93.7's Nathan, Nat and Shaun and AFL West Coast Eagle Jack Darling are also trying their hand on the cooking stage.

If you want a bit of action, witness the Action Sports Games with a combination of wakeboarding, water skiing, freestyle motocross, skateboarding and BMX riding. The City of Mandurah is hosting the International Wakeboarding and Waterski Federation World Cup as part of the Action Sports Games, for the third time in Australia.

Crab Fest would not be named as such without crabs and eating! If you are hungry, there are 24 food vendors serving 64 seafood dishes with 40 dishes featuring crab. If you are on a budget, there are $10 or less samplers by all food vendors to allow families the opportunity to try more delicious food. There are also non-seafood options if you are allergic or simply not a fan.

The Mandurah Foreshore is a smoke and alcohol free event perfect for the family. If you would like a drink, there are two family friendly licensed areas within the event which serves a selection of beer and wine. For more information about the event, visit http://mandurahcrabfest.tv
