The Mandorla Art Award is Australia's most significant thematic Christian art prize, attracting some of the country's finest artists since its 1985 inception.Presented every two years, the Mandorla Award seeks to encourage contemporary artistic interpretations of the Bible with a different theme chosen for each exhibition. This year's theme is "The Resurrection" and talented artists from across Australia, including well-known performer and writer Anh Do, previous winner Paul Kaptein and celebrated Indigenous artist Sally Morgan, submitted their personal interpretations of "The Resurrection" in the form of a painting, video, sculpture, photograph or textile artwork.
44 finalists have been selected and their works will be showcased in a special exhibition at the beautiful Linton and Kay Galleries from the 16th to 24th of July 2016. Entry is FREE and all are welcome to view the inspired artworks, which reference specific readings and reflections.Complementing the works of finalists are precious and rare religious texts from the Kerry Stokes collection.
Gallery hours are 10am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 11am - 4pm Saturdays and Sundays. An artist's talk is scheduled for Saturday 16th July at 2pm. All artworks (except the major prize winner) will be available for sale. After the exhibition in Perth, a selection of works will tour to New Norcia Museum and Art Gallery where the People's Choice Award winner will be announced.A Retrospective exhibition celebrating 30 years of the Mandorla Art Award featuring all the previous winners from 1985 - 2014 is currently on display at various St John of God Health Care campuses in Perth.
