The Mandoo is a little Korean dumpling restaurant located in the busy Asian melting pot of Strathfield - 12A The Boulevarde, Strathfield NSW. It is on the corner opposite Strathfield Plaza and is easy to spot because it is always busy, you can see the steam rising from the front of the restaurant and there are racks of dumplings in the window.
I haven't tried too many Korean dishes so I wasn't sure what to expect, but what drew me to this place for a Saturday lunch amongst a lot of choices in Strathfield was the freshness of the food (handmade in front of you), the limited menu (it must be good if they can limit to a few dishes) and the fact that there were plenty of Koreans eating there - always a good sign.
It is a small place, so be prepared to have to wait for a little bit during busy periods. The staff are super polite and friendly and have you seated with a bottle of water and a slice of lemon quickly.
I ordered the combination dumpling and the clear beef noodle soup.
I wasn't expecting the spices and the amount of onions involved in the dumplings as I'm probably used to the Chinese style dumplings, where there is just meat but they are very filling and the clear beef noodle soup was delicious. There aren't too many pieces of beef in the soup, but the soup is just as delicious without it.
It would be great to try the other dishes as well.
