I am a big fan of superhero films, and despite being more of a Marvel girl, the latest offering from DC Comics and director Jack Snyder, Man of Steel was too hard to resist. After having enjoyed all of the Avengers films, including the most recent one, Iron Man 3, my boyfriend and I made our way to see what the hype was about.
Generally, the film was enjoyable, with action scenes aplenty and very impressive and convincing performances from the two leads Henry Cavill and Amy Adams (as Clark Kent/Kal-El and Lois Lane respectively). However, the comedic aspect did not work as well as the director may have envisioned, and I felt that the film lacked something in terms of character development and plot. Russell Crowe was also given copious amounts of screen time, despite his character playing quite a minor role in previous comics/films concerning the Superman story.
Overall, I would recommend seeing this film, especially if you have been loyally following the other Superman movies, but those expecting an intense, emotional plot will be disappointed. Go for the action and the thrills.
