Make a date with your mates
While I do understand the concept of equality and shared work roles, when it comes to movie watching it seems women and men have, on average, very different tastes. That's why someone invented the term "chicks flicks" which usually have something to do with love, fashion or something teary that women love and men don't. Therefore I have invented the term "man movies" as ones that will more than likely attract male viewers. Although some of these films will be of interest to female movie goers, there are far more interesting chick flicks I would be more likely to go out to see. So I will dodge the flack of being accused sexist and suggest the following new release movies the men may like to catch at a cinema near you soon.

EMBRACE OF THE SERPENT- Release Date July 28
This is an acted documentary and a fascinating story. This film has English subtitles and was a winner at the Cannes Film Festival 2015. It tells the story based on diaries of scientists who explored the South American jungles in search of plant cures for illness. The movie spans 40 years, with two scientists on their quest, and the friendship between a tribal shaman. Blokes will love the bush bashing, rapid paddling and jungle trekking in this beautifully made picture filmed in sepia tones. There are some elements of truth in this film as there have been scientists who have researched cancer cures with the graviola tree which grows in South American jungles. This is a must see for blokes who like world stories rather the Hollywood blockbusters that grow a bit tiresome at times.

DEMOLITION- Release Date July 14
This drama is narrated by a man who is tortured with grief after his wife dies. I am of the adage, whatever you do; do something, so at least he is not sitting around wallowing in pity. So this guy deals with what he is going through the only way he can. First he tries to repair things, then he smashes them. He decides he needs to completely remove all traces of her and their home together piece by piece by demolishing their beautiful house. An interesting look at the silly things men do to cope.

THE FOUNDER- Release Date August 25
Now you can learn about how it all began. Way back in the 1950s a salesman had an idea of a burger chain, and the rest is history. Here is his story and how he achieved success with the biggest hamburger chain in the world. After you can stop at Macca's on the way home and wonder just how rich he became.

THE FREE STATE OF JONES- Release Date August 18
Yet another Civil War movie, and starring Mathew McConaughey. This the story of a southern farmer who fights to the end in his beliefs. Surviving a fierce, battle he then forms his own rebellion to establish and protect Jones County, where he eventually establishes a mixed race community. True period adventure film.

THE INFILTRATOR- Release Date September 1
True crime stories are intriguing and this one will tick the boxes if you are a mad suspense and crime follower. The story of one man's investigation into a large drug organisation who discovers their dirty deeds and brings

ONE MORE TIME WITH FEELING- Release Date September 8
A music sensation? This is a clever marketing gimmick and it's a simple tool that works. Create demand by offering a limited supply. This music- doco will screen at cinemas for one night only. After that, well you will just have to buy the album. And that album is the "Skeleton Tree" from Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds. Great mates night out idea with this one.

And now to the remakes and series ficks…

BEN HUR 2016- (also 3D) Release Date September 18
Oh why bother, nothing could be as good as the original with Charlton Heston, could it? Most men would not even be aware of the original. With all new special effects maybe I better sneak in to see this one with some man friends to compare the two. This is the story of a man who at the dawn of Christianity battles ahead with his own life, in changing times. Along the way he meets Jesus who touches his life as he struggles against one hardship after another. The original was an epic movie. This makes my choice for the blokes list as there is some terrific roman chariot and gladiator scenes. From a time when real men had fearless fortitude.

STAR TREK BEYOND- (also 3D) Release Date July 21
The 13th Star Trek film, and I have never seen a single one of them, so I cannot comment on this worldwide sci- fi phenomenon. Blokes seem to love them as they keep making them.

Jason Bourne, movies coming soon Australia
Matt Damon as Jason Bourne. Official movie poster.

JASON BOURNE- Release Date July 28
Matt Damon said he would never do another one without Director Paul Greengrass, as he felt they were a good team for this movie with grunt. It's been a few years in the preparations and filming and finally this long awaited blockbuster, the fifth in the series is here. Matt Damon fits this role like a glove now more than ever, now he is looking a little older and tougher. This one promises to deliver all the punch, smash, bang, grittiness the boys will devour. Put this one on the top of your list.

Men, war, strong beliefs and plenty of action are always an ongoing theme for man movies. Hope you get out and about to enjoy some of these selections. Tell some of your male friends about these new release flicks out soon.

Great article! I must say I'd prefer these movies over a chick flick any day.
