It's been a while since I've come across a good Italian restaurant but I found such in Mamma Maria's Kitchen at Rydalmere. For a hearty meal, you can't go past it and with so many delicious-sounding items on the menu our family has found it a place to return time and again.
Located within The Family Inn, it's reasonably priced with Mamma's recipes full of flavour enticing us back for more. Choosing what to have is hard. There are bread starters, salads, snacks, burgers, items from the grill, seafood, pasta dishes (16 different ones) and risottos, along with traditional and gourmet pizzas.
On my first visit, I was sold on this establishment. The lamb cutlets we had were crumbed (you can also get them grilled) with chips and salad ($24). They were cooked perfectly. On a subsequent visit I had them with mash and veggies but what sold me on this dish both times was the seeded mustard sauce. Other sauces can be chosen too but the seeded mustard is to die for. This dish stands out as my favourite meal here at Mamma's. Writing this is making me hungry for it yet again.
Between my husband and I we've tried a few pasta meals as well. Your regular Spaghetti Bolognese ($10) is good as is Fettuccine Shanks in Napoli sauce ($18) and the Spaghetti Meatballs ($16). All were flavoursome and filling.
We haven't experienced the burgers as yet nor the seafood or the pizzas. They all sound good too, especially the Mother Clucka burger with its chicken schnitzel, bacon, salad and chilli aioli sauce. Your favourite pizzas, such as Meatlovers, Margarita, Pepperoni and Supreme, are in good company with the gourmet variety that include Chicken Satay, Chorizo and Surf the Barbecue. They even have a dessert pizza, the Nutella with fresh strawberries.
Speaking of sweet things, there are not many desserts. The mains are so big that you don't really need dessert. Occasionally, they have some listed on the front counter and on my last visit they did so I decided to choose from the snacks section of the menu in order to fit in dessert. There was a choice of Panna cotta or Belgian waffle with ice cream, chocolate sauce and maple syrup. Both very tempting.
For the snack, I chose the Cheese & Bacon Chips with dipping sauces ($12). The portion was not like the loaded fries you get at fast food places and certainly not the size. This Mamma Maria's snack was the size of a large meal. It was very nice but getting half way through it, and having already ordered dessert, I decided to have the remaining half of this 'snack' put in a container to take home otherwise there was no way I would have fitted in the Belgian waffle ($7) that I chose.
Not your ordinary loaded fries, this serving was huge
Being within the pub, you have your choice of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks from the bar at your fingertips. The lemon, lime and bitters always go down well with me as I'm driving but they have a large range of beers, wines and spirits for those who desire something stronger.
Mamma Maria's Kitchen is open for both lunch and dinner, 7 days a week, in a relaxing environment and has recently partnered with Uber Eats for you to enjoy your food delivered to the comfort of your own home.
Delicious either way, Mamma's, you've got my vote as the best Italian in the area.
