When my friend suggested we head to a Mexican restaurant for dinner I was prepared for the worst. I was prepared for tacky sombreros, tequila drinking contests and food of questionable quality served in a barn-yard fashion. I was, however, pleasantly surprised at Mamasita, in the CBD.

Mamasita is located on Collins and Spring St in the CBD. It is small, crowded and incredibly hard to get a table. But the ambience is incredible and the décor makes you feel like you're in a swanky New York Restaurant (Sex and The City Style). Unfortunately this means there can be quite a long wait for a table – there is a minimum of 7 for a booking – but if you arrive early (around 5:30) you should be fine. This also means there aren't a lot of loud, messy children crying or running amok at the table next to yours – a definite advantage in my books!

The food is authentic and fresh. Small serving sizes means you can order several different dishes and - if you share – taste all that Mamasitas has to offer. I would recommend the fish tacos – it sounds off-putting, but these little tacos are dangerously addictive!

All this into consideration, Mamasitas can be quite pricey for a small amount of food. If you are after large serving sizes, convenience and value for money I would recommend you avoid Mamasitas. However, if you feel like treating yourself to a delicious meal at a swanky, inner-city restaurant then you can't go past Mamasitas!
