Easily accessible by public transport on tram 19, located at 164 Sydney Road in Coburg, Mama Wong's Kitchen is a no-frills venue serving Halal Chinese-Malaysian-Singaporean-Thai food.
The bright and fun menu displays photos of each dish, helping the diner choose from their extensive 57-item menu. There's also a diagram to teach you how to use chopsticks and the staff are more than happy to help you learn.
Mama Wong's Kitchen Treats
The friendly and attentive staff are accommodating to all dietary requests and are happy to modify dishes where able. We shared three main dishes between two diners: seafood laksa with rice noodles, unfortunately lacking the tamarind flavour and overloaded with noodles; the Kung Pao fish, a must order here, and also available with chicken, beef, tofu, or prawns; and Keow Teow with prawns, simple with a crunchy texture of bean shoots.
Freshly cooked substantial portions, with a variety of vegetables, at budget prices. The waiters will happily box up any leftovers for you to take home – who doesn't like that?
