Mount Lawley is known for its heartbeat. A trendy mecca for all things boutiques, bars and beauty. There's one place that manages to epitomise all three and that is Malt Supper Club.

An institution in Mount Lawley, it's claim to fame is the decor and its jazz type feel. If you need an early meeting spot, then this is an intimate, quiet and dimly lit place for a sojourn. My friend and I seconded a small table at the front and proceeded to make our way through the cocktail menu.

As with all things drinking - one gets hungry. That's where the share plate comes in. It's a great spread of fresh toasted ciabatta, juicy green olives, spicy chorizo, spring rolls, fried cheese croquettes (how can anyone go past that), the piece de resistance - arancini balls and salt and pepper squid.

You may be lucky enough to indulge in a show or performance. The night we were there burlesque performers were roving through the venue. Not bad for an early Friday night!

Insider tip: Make sure you meander around the venue, the inside trimmings are particularly pretty.
