Where in Brisbane on a glorious Saturday Autumn morning could you go for breakfast? Anywhere along the river would be my first choice. Someplace where you could relax and enjoy the beauty of this fine river city and all it has to offer.

Last Saturday we had the pleasure of enjoying both the fabulous location and wonderful food at Malt Pier. It is the smaller more casual dining place of Malt Dining which is located in the CBD.
Malt Pier is located in Newstead within walking distance from Newstead House and so close the CBD. They offer relaxed riverside dining in an intimate and alfresco atmosphere and they boast having the best seasonal produce on their menu.

Reservations are highly recommended especially if you are dining in a group. This can be done online and I am glad that I did as it was quite busy on this particular Saturday morning. Our little family group was celebrating my mum's birthday. We were served and attended to well by the friendly staff

Coffee was ordered and served soon after we sat down. We made our selections from the varied menu while enjoying our coffee.

I stepped outside of my comfort zone and ordered the Zucchini and corn fritters with grilled halloumi, watercress and crushed pea salad with cumin roasted cherry tomatoes ($17) It arrived looking very colourful and fresh. I am happy to say that it also tasted as good as it looked. The watercress and pea salad was the highlight that I think made the dish sing! My mum also had this dish but she wasn't able to finish it as it was a very generous serving (my dad helped her finish it).

My husband went for the blackboard special - the omelette with housemade ham and goat's cheese with tomato and sourdough. ($18) He also had a side of halloumi. His empty plate at the end told me that he enjoyed it. My dad and our son ordered the Toasted Bacon and egg wrap with tasty cheese, rocket and chutney ($12) Also a good choice that was enjoyed.

Malt Pier is open Tuesday to Sunday from 7am to 4pm for breakfast and lunch or something in between. If you want something more, there is breakfast cocktails (available after 10am for $16), smoothies and Nutri Bullet Juices.

Parking is available in the side streets though through the week it is paid parking. Free on the weekend. There is 30 minute free parking outside Malt Pier.

After we enjoyed our breakfast, we were able to enjoy a nice walk along the waterfront walkway to Newstead house. Taking in the lovely riverside scenery and watching the Citycats zip by.
Overall our breakfast was quite an enjoyable and leisurely experience. A lovely way to spend a Saturday morning in our wonderful city.
